UFTUM celebrated World Day for Decent Work

The conference "Decent work as a national objective", was opened by the Minister of Labour and Social Welfare, Ms Zorica Kovacevic and representative of the ILO Sub-regional Office for Central and Eastern Europe in Budapest and senior specialist in workers’ activities, Mr. Ovidiu Jurca. Participants of the panel on the topic Decent Work in Montenegro - overview of the situation from the social partners’ perspective were Srdja Kekovic – UFTUM Secretary General; Suzana Radulovic - Secretary General of Montenegrin Employers Federation and Tijana Prelevic - Acting Director General of Directorate for Labour of Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare. In addition to representatives of the UFTUM, the conference was attended by representatives of the Administration for Inspection Affairs; Agency for Peaceful Settlement of Labor Disputes and NGOs.
Participants of the Conference “Decent Work as a National Goal” agreed that Government, trade unions and employers need to do more and make a joint effort in order to create decent working conditions as well as opportunity to lead a life worthy of a human being for workers in Montenegro. For this purpose, Memorandum of Understanding on the Decent Work Programme for 2015-201will serve as a platform for joint action by the Government and social partners, who are signatures of Memorandum. By this programme, the social partners and Government agreed upon priorities and formulated the Decent Work Country Programme for the period 2015-2017, relating to: strengthening of social dialogue, promotion of employment and favorable conditions for sustainable businesses and formalization of the informal economy.
The International Labour Organization in the framework of this Program will help in fundraising and provide technical support for the implementation of the Programme in accordance with its rules and procedures. The representative of the International Labour Organisation has urged the trade unions to use the available mechanisms and instruments of this organization to protect workers' rights and ensure respect of the law.
